Nicholas Meyer

Nicholas Meyer (1945) didn’t just direct Star Trek II; without being credited for it at the time, he wrote the teleplay, combining the best elements of several scripts. He cast a young Kirstie Alley in the role of Saavik; instructed Production Designer Joe Jennings to make the Enterprise sets darker and costume designer Robert Fletcher to make the Starfleet uniforms more militaristic.

Meyer returned to Star Trek in 1986 to write half the script of The Voyage Home. In 1991, he directed the final adventure of the original Star Trek crew: The Undiscovered Country.
