Enterprise size comparison

Enterprise size comparison by Andrew Probert (Star Trek: The Next Generation Blu-ray Bonus Features)

Except when you add 10-Forward, the E-D suddenly gets a LOT bigger than shown here. The original intention was for the leading edge in the Enterprise-D’s saucer to be one deck thick, if even that with a person able to look out the top and bottom windows on the leading edge at once. This was shown in an early illustration by Probert. But when 10-Forward was added, that leading edge of the saucer became large enough to accommodate 2 full decks plus space for a Jefferies tube crawlspace in-Between. This now makes the Galaxy Class Enterprise-D larger than shown here.
